Western Colorado University

KWSB 91.1 is the student radio station at Western Colorado University. The station announced that they were redesigning their logo and holding a contest for listener submissions. My submission was the chosen design and is now in use for the station on social media, stickers, mugs, t-shirts, and other marketing material. I chose to focus on the station's long-standing penguin mascot. The circle shape of the penguin gives it a cute and friendly feel, and the sunglasses give it personality and enforce the tagline, “keeping the coldest valley HOT.” The circle-shaped penguin also represents a record and, along with the tonearm, captures the current revival of vinyl and record players. The font was chosen for its rounded forms to mimic the penguin and connections were added to create visual interest. To allow for variety, the logo was provided with a choice of accent colors and elements can be used in a variety of combinations.
